Roula el-Husseini Begdache acts as Of Counsel at the Firm.
Specialized in private international law, Roula’s practice covers all aspects related to this field with a focus on conflicts of laws and jurisdictions and special private international law (including personal status, successions, matrimonial property regimes as well as international trade law and arbitration) from a Lebanese private international law perspective as well as an in depth knowledge of French private international law. Alongside private international law, she is also specialized in torts and contracts.
Roula has also developed a broad expertise in administrative and urban planning laws in Lebanon as well as the preservation of antiquities and archaeological sites and litigation regarding such matters; she also has a long practice of constitution of non-profit organizations under Lebanese Law and she also regularly advises in the field of Lebanese corporate law.
Roula also focuses on the field of energy law, notably upstream oil and gas in the Arab countries.
Roula has an extensive experience both as a professor and as a lawyer, and has been a Member of the Legal Commission to the Prime Minister's Cabinet (2001-2004), before becoming a Member of the Legal Commission for the Modernization and Unification of Laws at the Ministry of Justice (since 2003) and the Legislative Commission at the Beirut Bar Association (since 2010).
Roula was a Professor at the Lebanese University, Filière Francophone de Droit (1999-2015), and as a Visiting Professor at Paris II Panthéon-Assas University (2014-2017).
She is currently a Lecturer at Saint Joseph University, Faculty of Law, in the field of private international law.
She has published articles and publications in the areas of private international law, torts and contracts and personal status. Roula also supervises Doctoral candidates as well as Masters’ students’ dissertations.
She holds a LLB in general private law from Paris II Panthéon-Assas University (France), a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA – Diplôme d’Études Approfondies) in private law from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University (France), and a PhD in private international law from Paris I Panthéon-Assas University (France).
